OH Canada!

Canadian dollar trumps the US dollar for the first time in history.

In other news, rate cut by the Fed bumps Wall Street into positive territory and my 401K is over $15,000 now with a rate of return of 15.3%

Random question: Would you ever sell your soul? I would not, not for any amount of money. Somethings are more important that money. What do you think?

Millionaire-itis - a new disease

Who Wants to Be an Internet Millionaire

Sunday, October 01, 2000

By Cristina Rouvalis, Post-Gazette Staff Writer

Millionaire-itis is the obsession of our times. We fixate on the TV show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and the most cunning "Survivor." Everywhere you look, there is another story about dot.com riches or stock-market wealth. It's a new national pastime, fantasizing about becoming suddenly rich and telling your boss you're outta here.

"There are a lot more wealthy people," says Stephen Goldbart, a clinical psychologist who co-founded the Money, Meaning and Choices Institute in San Francisco. "It makes everybody else working regular jobs feel left out."

And nothing elicits millionaire-envy among working stiffs than those stories about young dot.com millionaires who made their wealth through Internet savvy.

Ebay is the new garage sale - Make money now!

Utilize Ebay to bring in some extra cash. Sell things on Ebay if you have not already. Go there ebay.com and check it out. What are you waiting for? I've done very well - selling what I consider to be useless junk to others that find it useful and profitable. The saying certainly holds true that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Just look at the one red paper-clip kid, who traded up in under a year to get a house in Canada. Simply amazing. I wonder what I could get for one silver paper-clip. There is even a new widget that just came out for Wordpress that allows you to place the items you are selling in the sidebar. Anyone can sell anything, anytime, anywhere. I think it's pretty neat and it is really a great service for those small business owners looking to increase profits. Many people have been running auctions on Ebay as making a good living doing it. They buy wholesale products and auction them off for less than full price. The internet has really revoluntionized the way people can shop. It's easy as point and click, and poof, just like magic the package comes in the money days later. The only drawback is that it is very impersonal.

Get it done!

How do you accomplish things most efficiently? When are you most effective? I write to do lists and cross things off as I complete them. Doing this gives me a sense of accomplishment. My best working times are in the morning and in the evening, right after lunch I easily lose my focus.

Working hard to get a raise!

I am currently studying for a test. If I pass the test I get a raise of $1 an hour. Health care doesn't pay unless you are a surgeon, drug company or insurance company. Is there anything you can do to get a raise, other than work hard and ask for one?

Get your articles in!

The Festival of Under 30 Finances is now weekly, due to the high volume of participants. I'll be posting it on Monday. This weeks' topic is cash. Have an excellent Friday.

Go PSU beat Notre Dame!

Coming Soon! Contests for Free Finance Books.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been receiving a few different finance books from different authors on different subjects. I will be posting reviews of the books here and then holding contests with free finance books as prizes. I want to give back to the finance community and to those that regularly subscribe and read this site. Since I've been fortunate enough to receive these books for free I will pay it forward. Stay tuned!
