Be Like MacGuyver

Instead of paying for a professional to fix things, do it yourself and save a bundle. Anytime you are unable to do something you usually have to pay someone else to do it. For example if you are having car problems and are unable to fix it yourself, you need to take it to a mechanic to fix it. If your faucet leaks and you do not know how to fix it, you need to hire a plumber to fix it. If you do not know how to do your taxes, you take it to someone who knows how to fill out the forms. If your computer is broken and you don't know how to fix it you take it to someone who can fix it. All of these examples are simple problems that take a little effort and knowledge to fix. If you are not a specialist in fix it projects, then you are probably throwing money away. I will always try to solve the problem before paying someone else to solve it. Anyone can give it a shot right. Many things are easy after you do a little reading on the subject, and hey you may learn a thing or two. The Key is to determine whether or not it is a job you can handle yourself or if you really need a pro.
I am proud of the fact that I have successfully completed a number of do-it-yourself projects including: building a computer, fixing a leaky shower, fixing a leaky toilet, painting my entire home, doing my own taxes, trouble-shooting car problems, set up my own home business, started making more money after doing some research, set up a successful website and blog etc.
In future postings I will outline how to do different projects yourself, please comment to let me know what people are most interested in.

Time Management

Time is money according to the popular saying. Time management skills are important not only in the workplace but also in life in general. Having good time management skills can free up your time to do things that are important for you. Procrastination is the mother of all beasts. It sneaks up on you and bullys you, tricks you into doing useless things and steals valuable time. Don't put things off. For example, when you check your email, delete, or reply immediately. This saves time, you won't need to think about it again. Check out these links to save time http://www.mindtools.com/page5.html,http://www.studygs.net/timman.htm,

Take advantage of what you have

Today think about all the expenses you have and figure out what you need and what you can live without. If you don't need 1500000 minutes on your cell phone downsize to a cheaper plan, or better yet get rid of your cell phone altogether. As for television, try to cut it down to basic cable, if you need cable, shop around and find the cheapest service in your area. Another way to make your money go further is at the supermarket. Always clip coupons and look for special sales on items you regularly buy. My wife and I saved over $25 last time we went food shopping, just be using coupons. Don't pay retail for anything, if you want brand new things, wait for the sale, or get it used. These are just a few things you can do to help you trim down your budget. If you don't have a budget, make one, figure out how much you spend each month and what you spend your money on.

Surviving Mondays

Monday is the most depressing day of the week for a majority of people. For many companies Mondays and Fridays are the worst days for production because the employees are either still recovering from the weekend or preparing to relax. Get in the right mindset. Prepare to conquer the night before. To get a head start on the week write down some goals you want to accomplish for that week and take a look at your schedule. Doing this helps to focus your mind. For extra credit schedule in some relaxing activites and some fun things that you'll be able to look forward to during the week. In order to get through Monday you need to think like an optimist and change your perspective. Look at the glass as half full. Another quick tip is to lay out the clothes you will wear for tommorrow the night before. This will help save some valuable time in the morning. If you are ready to go on Monday you'll be able to get things done while others are looking sluggish. If you walk into work with a smile and a full head of steam, people will notice, not just any people, but people who are likely to give you a promotion. So next week don't let the others (complainers and whiners) get you down. Rise above the crowd and excel in whatever you do.

Exercise, Fitness, and Health

If you want to look better and feel better, GET IN SHAPE. Obesity is a major health risk for many Americans today. High cholestoral, leads to clogged arteries, and clogged arteries lead to strokes and heart attacks. I don't know about you, but I don't want half of my body to become paralyzed later on in life due to poor nutrition and exercise habits. EXERCISE IS GOOD. You don't need any scientific studies to prove this. Exercise - relieves stress, and improves both mental and physical health. Exercise causes the release of chemicals called endorphins in the brain which make you feel good. I'm not going to keep listing the numberous benefits of exercise because I think you get the point. I'm just trying to provide you with some information to motivate you to get off your butt and in motion.
I recently started a new workout plan from Men's Fitness. I will be weighing myself at the beginning and end of the month and recording my progress every workout. The article also sugguests taking a picture of yourself before and after, so it is easier to see the differences in your body. The program is 3 days a week and consists of a circuit. I am keeping my repetitions low 6-8 to try to put on some size and using heavier weights. After this month I'll see how well my strength improves and change the plan for next month. Here's a good link to New Year's Resolutions from Men's Health the key is sticking with it for at least 21 days because then it becomes a habit

With anything you want to accomplish the first thing you need is a plan of action. Next write down short term and long term goals.
